A young man who long ago gave over the hard work of being a composer for the easy life of a rich man's son is bamboozled into slapping together a musical production. Having borrowed right and left, and plagiarized the works of a friend, he feels cheap, very cheap. He feels even worse when the awful thing is a success.

A widowed conductor rediscovers love when he meets a young woman from the countryside, but doubts about his music make him question his competence and distance himself from the woman he loves.

Mexico's new president vows to attack the drug trade; in retaliation, his wife has already been assassinated. Carlos Bravo is a secret service agent: he's fired when the son of the president reports that Carlos has spent the night with the president's daughter. Carlos joins a Mariachi band to stay close to the president's ranch in Morelos. He's performing at the ranch when a drug lord invades with the help of the president's son, takes the president, his daughter, and many visiting dignitaries hostage, and demands the return of a huge shipment of cocaine that the government has confiscated. Set Against the backdrop of a 1960's jungle seaport in tropical Australia and the rich concert halls of wintry Vienna, Maestro is a story of extremes. When talented pianist, 18 yr old Paul Crabbe moves to an exotic outpost of Far Northern Australia in 1968, he is forced to learn from the only piano teacher his father can find - the eccentric, enigmatic, Herr Keller,a Viennese refugee with a shadowed past. In the late 1980s, Pasha Karitonov, a young musician from Odessa, returns home from an eight-month trip to India working on board a merchant ship. He has been trying to earn enough money to buy his own flat, a condition imposed by the father of his girlfriend, Lilia before they can get married. However, when exchanging his currency one day, Pasha encounters a young swindler girl, who steals all his money. Pasha realises that this puts paid to the wedding plans, so the lovers decide to flee to Crimea.
